The phrase comes from the 1940’s film Gaslight, in which an abusive husband deliberately dims the gaslights in the house, but when his wife comments on it he tells her she’s imagining it, that the lights never dimmed at all.
This leads the wife to eventually go crazy. And, that is the whole idea. To undermind, to make you doubt yourself, to erase your free thinking mind.
Gaslighting can happen anywhere... In any kind of relationship - family, friends, colleagues, bosses!
It is not a nice feeling! It makes you feel like you are going crazy, that you are not worthy of your feelings, your position, and/or of being you. It makes you second-guess your every move, and carry around a feeling of 'less than' and that you are not worthy!
That is where the gaslighter wants you! And that is where the gaslighter will keep you!
If you think that someone is gaslighting you, let us talk. I have years of experience being on the receiving end, and I can share with you my coping mechanisms. You might not like them, but - trust me - this sh*t is real! And, the sooner you realize that, the better! Why? Because you were designed by God for greatness, and it is time for you to reclaim your own power!
